Welcome to another edition of 6-Banner Sunday, a joint production between The Assembly Call and Inside the Hall, where we highlight the five most essential IU basketball stories of the past week, plus take a look at how the other IU sports programs are doing.
With the entire team from last year in the transfer portal, new IU coach Darian DeVries continues to build a roster for next season. Despite the women’s squad not changing their staff, they will have to make over their roster after their top player announced she is moving on.
Besides this, we will provide some information on the DeVries contract and where things stand in the NCAA tournament. As usual, we will conclude with weekly shows and a look at other Indiana sports, led by softball pulling a massive upset on the road.
Here is what is in this week’s edition:
• DePaul transfer Connor Enright commits to Indiana
• Yarden Garzon enters the portal and Chloe Spreen commits
• DeVries contract released
• 2025 NCAA tournament down to two teams
• Back Home Network shows
• Hoosier Roundup
Banner #1 – DePaul transfer Connor Enright commits to Indiana
With the entire team from last year now in the transfer portal, IU coach Darian DeVries needs a new roster.
DePaul transfer Conor Enright officially committed to Indiana this week. However, targets Ryan Conwell and Josh Dix committed elsewhere.
DeVries will have all new players, just as he did when taking over at West Virginia last year. Scouring the portal is a must given the lack of personnel in Bloomington still and DeVries is almost certainly hard at work doing so.
While the portal will be the primary way to bring players in, a couple of 2025 recruits are being looked at while still out of high school. Also, IU is not the only one with players leaving, as the Big Ten has multiple athletes moving around and a trio from last year’s Hoosiers have new homes.
Banner #2 – Yarden Garzon enters the portal and Chloe Spreen commits
While the women have had very little movement or transfer portal entries in the last few years, this spring has been very different so far. Moren recently talked about getting bigger and more athletic following the season-ending loss to South Carolina.
The biggest bombshell of the offseason though came on Monday when leading scorer Yarden Garzon entered the transfer portal. The Hoosiers did pick up their first commitment from the portal this week, though, when former Indiana Miss Basketball Chloe Spreen announced she is coming back home after playing her freshman season at Alabama.
It remains to be seen though how or if Indiana fills all of their open scholarships. The only uncommitted name known to have the Hoosiers in her final five options is Arkansas transfer Phoenix Stotijn, who recently visited campus.
Banner #3 – DeVries contract released
The contract for DeVries was officially made public this week and is for six years at roughly 4.5 million per season. He also needs to add assistants to his staff and the first one was officially brought on board with Nick Norton following him from West Virginia. A couple of others have been reported as well but are yet to be confirmed by IU.
The first chance for the fanbase to interact with DeVries will be in a couple of months. This is when he will appear at the annual Huber’s Event in Southern Indiana. It will take place on May 28.
Banner #4 – 2025 NCAA tournament down to two teams
The finale tomorrow night is set after two thrillers in the Final Four. It will feature a coach Hoosier fans are very familiar with as Kelvin Sampson’s Houston squad takes on Florida. The Gators knocked off Auburn, while the Cougars took advantage of a late Duke collapse to earn their spot.
For the women, UCLA was the Big Ten’s final hope for a national championship. However, they were dominated by UConn. The Huskies will face fellow superpower South Carolina today for a title. The Gamecocks overwhelmed Texas to get there.
Banner #5 – Back Home Network Shows
The Back Home Network was on-air multiple times in the last few days. Crimson Cast, Doing The Work, and Dribble Drive all had shows this week.
Banner #6 – Hoosier Roundup
