Hershey Bears Fall to Bridgeport Islanders 2-1 in Shootout, Chase Priskie Scores Lone Goal For Hershey

The Hershey Bears fell to the Bridgeport Islanders in a shootout, by a score of 2-1 on Monday. The loss drops the Bears record to 29-7-o-1 on the season. The loss marks just the second loss for Hershey in the skills competition this season, following their 4-3 loss to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in their previous game.

1ST PERIOD

The first period saw no offense from either the Bears or Islanders, with both clubs receiving one power play opportunity each. Heading into the first intermission, the Chocolate and White held a 9-8 Shots on Goal advantage over Bridgeport.

2ND PERIOD

The middle frame proved to be even more uneventful than the first, with neither team able to crack the opposing netminder and Bridgeport unable to convert on a tripping call on the Bears’ Ryan Hofer that carried over into the third period. Clay Stevenson kept the Bears and Isles knotted at 0-0 with a few key stops, including a sparkler around 2:30 in.

At the end of 40, the Bears held a 19-13 lead in SOG.

3RD PERIOD

The Islanders got on the board first getting a goal from Ruslan Iskhakov at the 7:11 mark of the final frame, assisted by Otto Koivula and Tyce Thompson.

The Bears struck back just over eight minutes later on defenseman Chase Priskie’s third of the season; Hardy Haman Aktell and Mike Sgarbossa recorded the assists.

With the clubs unable to come to a decision after 60 minutes, the game proceeded to overtime with the score tied at 1-1, and the Choclate and White leading 30-23 in shots.

OVERTIME

An extra five minutes of play failed to produce a result, moving the two clubs to a shootout.

SHOOTOUT

The Islanders elected to shoot first, with William Dufour’s conversion being matched by the Bears’ Ivan Miroshnichenko. Iskhakov and Joe Snively followed with conversions on their attempts, before Karson Kuhlman and Mike Sgarbossa were each stopped in the third round. Otto Koivula and Pierrick Dube each failed to convert, before Matthew Maggio bested Stevenson and Ethen Frank was stonewalled by Tikkanen, giving Bridgeport the 2-1 victory.
