According to The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun, the Washington Capitals have traded center Evgeny Kuznetsov to the Carolina Hurricanes for a 2025 third-round pick and will retain half of his remaining contract (two years at $7.8 million against the NHL salary cap). The 31-year-old returned from the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program, where he spent nearly the previous four weeks, on Saturday before clearing waivers on Sunday.
Kuznetsov, who has requested a trade from Washington numerous times, tallied six goals and 17 points in 43 games. He has not played since January 27.
