Derrick White, Jrue Holiday both named to NBA All-Defensive Second Team


Derrick White and Jrue Holiday were named to the Kia NBA All-Defensive Second Team, the NBA announced on Tuesday.

The All-Defensive First Team was led by Minnesota’s Rudy Gobert (198 points), San Antonio’s Victor Wembenyama (184 points), Miami’s Bam Adebayo (168 points), New Orleans’ Herb Jones (159 points), and Los Angeles’s Anthony Davis (151 points).

The Second Team was made up of Chicago’s Alex Caruso (130 points), Orlando’s Jalen Suggs (99 points), Derrick White (98 points), Minnesota’s Jaden McDaniels (66 points), and Jrue Holiday (36 points).

The Celtics had the league’s second-best defense during the regular season, and was one of only two teams with multiple All-Defense selections. Minnesota, who held the league’s best defense during the regular season, also had two selections.

Holiday’s selection marked the sixth of his career, while White enjoys his second selection, which came in consecutive years. White contested 480 shots, which ranked third in the NBA among guards, per WEEI’s Justin Turpin.

He also finished third in total blocks (87), good for third among guards, behind Scottie Barnes and Peyton Watson. Holiday finished with 54 total blocks, which put him in 9th place among NBA guards.

White finished with 15 first-place votes and 68 second-place votes, good for 99 points overall (each first team vote equals one points while each second team votes equal one point).

Holiday finished with 6 first-place votes and 24 second-place vote for a total of 36 points. He finished in 10th-place, two points ahead of Oklahoma City’s Lu Dort.

Jaylen Brown (three First Team votes, two Second Team votes) and Jayson Tatum (two Second Team votes) also received consideration.
