The Washington Capitals signed right-wing Taylor Raddysh to a one-year, $1 million contract on Monday after the unrestricted free agent market opened.

The 26-year-old notched five goals and 14 points in 73 games with the Chicago Blackhawks last season and has 36 goals and 73 points in 225 career games with Chicago and Tampa Bay Lightning. He was not tendered a qualifying offer as a pending restricted free agent before Sunday’s deadline.

Raddysh averaged 1:48 per game on the power play (ninth among Chicago forwards) and 1:33 on the penalty kill (fourth). Washington finished the regular season with a .79 penalty-killing efficiency (19th in the NHL) and also signed left-wing Brandon Duchaime to a two-year contract earlier on Monday to bolster the unit.

Raddysh was traded to Chicago as part of the deal that sent right-wing Brandon Hagel to Tampa Bay on March 18, 2022.

The Capitals are currently $981,667 over the NHL salary cap with Nicklas Backstrom (hip) expected to remain on long-term injured reserve next season but are under if T.J. Oshie (back) does not play.
