The Washington Capitals fell to the Boston Bruins, 4-2 Tuesday night at TD Garden in Boston. The loss gives the Capitals a 0-2-0 record in the preseason with four more tuneups remaining before opening night on October 12.
LINEUP
Hunter Shepard got the start between the pipes for the visiting Capitals. Joonas Korpisalo got the start in goal for the Bruins. The starting forward lines and defensive pairs for the Capitals:

FIRST PERIOD
The Bruins opened the scoring just past the midway point of the opening frame. Riley Tufte (1) was credited with the opening tally at 8:09 of the first period. J. Oesterle (1) had the lone assist.

And that was it for the first 20 minutes. Boston led in shots on goal, 7-5. The Bruins led in expected goals for .53 to .24.
SECOND PERIOD
The Bruins made it 2-0 early in the middle frame with a power play goal from Fabian Lysell at 2:59. M. Callahan (1) and B. Harrison (1) had the helpers.

The Bruins made it 3-o midway through the second period on a laser from the slot by Patrick Brown (1) at 10:14 of the period.

Michael Dipietro replaced Joonas Korpisalo in goal for the Bruins immediately following the Brown goal.
This time the Capitals quickly answered. Connor McMichael dented the twine less than a minute later at 11:00 of the middle frame. P. Dubois (1) and T. Wilson (1) had the assists.

The Bruins held the 3-1 lead into the second intermission. Bruins led in shots on goal 13-11 after 40 minutes of play.
THIRD PERIOD
The Bruins restored their three-goal lead early in the final frame on a backhander from Justin Brazeau (1) at 2:12 of the third period.

Andrew Cristall notched his second goal in as many games to make it 4-2, late in the period. H. Rybinski (1) and P. Dube (1) had the helpers.

And that would be the final. The Capitals have been out-scored 10-4 in the first two preseason games.
