I have long been a tireless advocate for the idea that fishing, as a minigame, is not good. I do not care for fishing. But there’s no great mystery to why so many MMORPGs have fishing in them. They include fishing because people like fishing. I have no doubt that a number of people who enjoy fishing in MMORPGs are reading this post right now, and I’m sure you know your favorite game where it’s always a joy to go fishing.
But I want to know about the opposite.
After all, fishing as a minigame means that it’s possible to do a bad job with it. It’s possible to make a fishing activity that requires the opposite of what you want from fishing, whether that means it’s too passive or for some reason fishing requires you to calibrate your primary fish-based laser array. So which MMORPG has the worst fishing? Which game has fishing that you just find downright obnoxious or bad even by the standards by which you judge a fishing minigame?
