PHILADELPHIA – The Flyers hosted the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday, and were thumped, 5-2.
It was the fifth straight loss for the Flyers.
“This is a really frustrating, tough stretch for us,” Flyers defenseman Nick Seeler said. “Tonight we competed. Other than that stretch in the second where we were allowing them to have too many odd-man rushes, we have to get that out of our game, I thought we were supporting the puck much better and the [defensemen] were able to get up and pinch really well. We just need to get out of this together.”
Anton Forsberg, made 20 saves in the win.
Brady Tkachuk scored 24 seconds into the game to give the Senators a 1-0 lead.
“He’s the captain for a reason and it was a great way to start the game,” Ottawa’s Tyler Kleven said.
The Flyers’ Jamie Drysdale evened the game, 1-1, early in the middle frame. t
“I feel pretty confident in my game,” he said. “But in saying that, as a team we’ve got to win and I can still be a lot better. Made a bunch of mistakes defensively, caused a couple chances against.”
Kleven replied quickly for Ottawa and put them back in the leadm 2-1.
“Always good to pitch in when I can,” he said. “The puck was just bobbling there, and I just threw it on net, a little knuckle curve and it went in.”
Rodrigo Abols tied the game for the Flyers, 2-2,at 8:45 of the second.
“We’re trying to get traction, we’re trying to get momentum and they score right after,” Flyers coach John Tortorella said. “Especially the third one, that hurts. … The third goal took the wind right out of our sails after we get it tied up.”
Michael Amadio restored the Sens lead, 3-2, at 15:01 of the second headed to the third period.
Dylan Cozens scored midway through the third period to give the Senators a 4-2 advantage.
“He’s a nice player,” Green said. “He’s very coachable. He’s hungry to win. He’s made a good first impression on us for sure. … He’s kind of just fit right in. He’s a big body, skates probably better than I imagined, and he’s been physical. I think he had 17 hits in his first two games, and gets a couple big goals as well.”
Shane Pinto hit an empty net for the 5-2 final.
Ivan Fedotov made 19 saves in the loss..
