Warsofsky Named Head Coach of U.S. Men’s National Team

Former South Carolina Stingrays head coach Ryan Warsofsky, who is in his first season as head coach for the National Hockey League’s San Jose Sharks, has been named head coach of the U.S. Men’s National Team for the 2025 IIHF Men’s World Championship by USA Hockey. The event is set for May 9-25 in Herning, Denmark, and Stockholm, Sweden.

Warsofsky served as an assistant coach for the U.S. Men’s National Team at the 2023 IIHF Men’s World Championship where Team USA won its first eight games in the event for the first time ever.

He spent two seasons as head coach in South Carolina from 2016-18, posting an overall record of 88-44-12, serving as a coach at the 2018 ECHL All-Star Classic in Indy and leading the Stingrays to the 2017 Kelly Cup Finals. During the 2017-18 season, South Carolina set league records for fewest goals allowed in a season (153) and lowest goals-against average per game (2.13).

In his first season as the head coach of the Sharks and the current youngest bench boss in the NHL, Warsofsky served as an assistant coach for two seasons with San Jose before ascending to his current role.

Prior to joining the Sharks, Warsofsky was the head coach of the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League for two seasons (2020-22), where, in 2022, at age 34, he became the youngest coach since Peter Laviolette in 1999 to guide a team to the Calder Cup.

He also spent two seasons with the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers — one as an assistant (2018-19) and one as head coach (2019-20). In 2019, he helped guide the Checkers to the Calder Cup.

Warsofsky’s coaching career began in 2012-13 with his alma mater, NCAA Division III Curry College, as an assistant after two seasons with the team as a player. He then joined the Stingrays in 2013, serving as an assistant for three seasons before being promoted to head coach and director of hockey operations for his final two campaigns (2016-18).
