Columbus, GA – The Athens Rock Lobsters defeated the Columbus River Dragons in regulation last night, 5-2.
Connor Lind kicked things off just 22 seconds into the game, putting the River Dragons ahead early in the first period, 1-0.
The Rock Lobsters struck back in the second period with three unanswered goals, leaving the River Dragons trailing, 3-1.
In the third period, Ryan Hunter found a moment of weakness in Athens’ defense and buried one at 10:26 to bring life back to the River Dragons’ pursuit.
Unfortunately for Columbus though, the remainder of their battles went fruitless.
The Rock Lobsters sealed their win with a salty empty net goal at 19:51, posting a final score of 5-2.
Both teams will meet again Wednesday in Columbus for Game 1 of the first round in the FPHL Commissioner’s Cup playoffs.
Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
