Merrimack men’s basketball received a commitment from Gannon sophomore guard Ernest Shelton on Thursday.
Shelton is a 6-foot-5 guard from Philadelphia. Last season, he started all 34 games for Gannon and averaged 17.4 points, 4.5 rebounds in just under 28 minutes per game. Shelton shot 40.8 percent overall and 35.0 percent from 3-point range. He was an 86.2 percent free-throw shooter.
Shelton helped lead Gannon to a PSAC championship this past season and an appearance in the Atlantic Regional championship game, where the Golden Knights fell to No. 1 seed West Liberty.
With two years of eligibility remaining, Shelton was named All-PSAC First Team last season. Iona, East Carolina, and Tennessee-Chattanooga were also recruiting him.
That (unofficially) makes eight members for next season’s roster.
