The Washington Capitals announced on Tuesday morning that defenseman Martin Fehervary suffered a right knee injury on April 15 at the New York Islanders and underwent surgery on Monday to repair it. He will miss all of the postseason.
The 24-year-old sustained the injury after blocking a shot by Islanders center Bo Horvat in the slot.

Alexander Alexeyev took Fehervary’s spot in Washington’s 3-2 overtime victory over the Montreal Canadiens in Game 1 of the best-of-seven first round Stanley Cup Playoff series.
Fehervary tallied five goals, 25 points, a +18 rating, .5087 five-on-five Corsi-for percentage, .5047 five-on-five expected goals-for percentage, and .5252 five-on-five scoring chances-for percentage in 81 regular-season games. He averaged 19:00 per game (fifth among Capitals defensemen), including 3:02 on the penalty kill (first).
Washington, who finished the regular season tied for eighth with a 2.79 goals-against per game average and tied for fourth with a .82 penalty-killing rate, also has Dylan McIlrath has their seventh defenseman.
Game 2 will be at Capital One Arena on Wednesday (7 PM ET, Monumental Sports Network locally, ESPN nationally).
