Promoter Oscar De La Hoya Predicts an early night for Ryan Garcia in his battle against Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero next Friday, May 2nd, in their 12-round bout on DAZN PPV.

Early Night Expected
De La Hoya thinks the year-long layoff will help Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) in his fight, and sees him destroying the free-swinging former WBA light welterweight champion Romero (16-2, 13 KOs) within four rounds. Rolly leaves himself open with his aggressive fighting style, and won’t last long doing that against Kingry.
Oscar doesn’t rule out Rolly winning due to his punching power. However, he doubts that he’s going to pull off the upset because of Kingry being too fast, skilled, and powerful for him.
Rolly’s Struggles
– Manuel Jaimes
– Isaac Cruz – TKO 8 loss
– Ismael Barroso
– Gervonta Davis – TKO 6 loss
Also, Rolly has lost two out of his last four fights, and he’s struggled even in the ones he won. He was fine when he was feasting on lower-level opposition, but since stepping up against world-level fighters three years ago, he’s floundered.
De La Hoya sees this fight as bringing Garcia, 26, closer to taking over the throne from Canelo Alvarez as the #1 star in the U.S. He could be right.
An impressive victory by Ryan over Romero, Devin Haney, and potentially Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis could vault him past Canelo as the top star in America. Alvarez no longer takes risks and mostly fights lesser opposition nowadays.
“He’s ready to take that throne and be the next guy. I really do feel that,” said Oscar De La Hoya to Fight Hub TV about Ryan Garcia, believing he’s ready to become the next big star in North America. “I see him as more powerful. I see him stronger and determined to make a statement [on May 2nd].
“I think the power is going to make the difference here [against Rolly Romero], and the speed. The pop in his hands is incredible. It’s going to be a fun four-round fight. It’s going to be a high pace, and both guys can bang,” said De La Hoya, predicting an early knockout for Ryan. “I think the punches that are going to be flying inside that ring are going to make for a short night.”
Rematch in October
Devin Haney is fighting on Ryan’s undercard against Jose Ramirez. If he wins that, a rematch with Garcia will happen in October. That’s the match that a lot of people want to see due to their fight last April. Although Garcia won by a 12-round majority decision, the results were overturned by the New York State Athletic Commission due to his positive test for the banned PED Ostarine.
Devin was given a clean slate with his record, and he’s made sure that he’s reminded fans of Ryan’s positive test. A rematch will allow the two to prove who is really the best.
