The NHL announced on Saturday that Washington Capitals right-wing Tom Wilson and Montreal Canadiens right-wing Josh Anderson were both fined $5,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct after fighting on Washington’s bench in Game 3 of the first-round Stanley Cup Playoff series on Friday night at Bell Centre.
At the end of the second period, players on both teams exchanged a few words and scrummed with one another. A fight between Wilson and Anderson broke out and ended up on the Capitals’ bench.
Both players got 10-minute misconducts and two-minute minor penalties for roughing to start the third period.
Capitals center Lars Eller and Canadiens defenseman Arber Xhekaj were also both assessed two-minute minor penalties for roughing.
After Washington tied Game 3 2:39 into the third period, Montreal scored three unanswered to take the contest by a 6-3 score and cut the Capitals’ series lead to 2-1.
Game 4 from Bell Centre will be on Sunday at 6:30 PM ET (Monumental Sports Network locally, TBS/truTV nationally).
Washington’s Tom Wilson has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for unsportsmanlike conduct during last night’s game against Montreal.
