“We’re Going For That Knockout”: Munguia Promises Vengeance Against Surace

Bruno Surace says he wants to prove that his previous victory over super middleweight contender Jaime Munguia was no fluke when he faces him this Saturday, May 3rd, on DAZN PPV on the undercard of Canelo Alvarez vs. William Scull at The Venue in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Surace (26-0-2, 5 KOs) knocked out Munguia (44-2, 35 KOs) in the sixth round on December 14th last year in Tijuana, Mexico. Munguia’s promoters had picked him out because he had a flashy, unbeaten record, and he was thought to be a sure-thing win. He surprised Jaime by showing better power than his promoters had expected.

Proving It Again

Munguia had been through a grueling fight against Canelo earlier in the year on May 4th, and that may have taken something out of him. He lost to Alvarez by a 12-round unanimous decision and was dropped. That fight may have had something to do with how Munguia was obliterated by Surace because he should have been able to take his power.

Undercard Starts at 7:00 PM ET

– Jaime Munguia vs. Bruno Surace
– Martin Bakole vs. Efe Ajagba
– Badou Jack vs. Ryan Rozicki
– Marco Verde vs. Michel Polina
– Brayan Leon vs. Aaron Guerrero

“I’m excited to fight against him again. It’s important for me to take this opportunity again, and to show that I can best him again,” said Bruno Surace to Fight Hub TV about why he wanted to fight a rematch with Jaime Munguia.

Munguia’s management wanted the rematch, but this may be a mistake on their part. If he loses to Surace a second time, his career is going to be in bad shape. It seems like a risky thing for him to do, but they must feel confident that he can do the job against the Frenchman.

“The first bout means nothing without revenge. So, it’s capital for me to do it again here. I guess I surprised a lot of boxing fans, and I put my name. A lot of boxing fans didn’t know my name. So now I have to do it again. They were underestimating me because I’m unknown,” said Surace.

Those shots that Bruno, 26, was hitting Munguia with would have done damage to anyone in the division. It was made worse because Munguia was getting hit so cleanly without seeing the punches due to the speed of Surace.

Knockout Quest

“I’m really prepared for this shot,” said Jaime Munguia bout his rematch with Surace. “There’s always things you can get better at, but my offense and my defense in general. Real excited,” said Munguia when asked if he wants to prove people wrong.

“We’re going for that knockout, and we’re going to give the fans in Saudi, and all over the world, a great fight,” said Munguia.
