The New York Islanders won the 2025 NHL Draft Lottery on Monday and will pick first overall at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Friday, June 27. The Islanders moved up nine spots up the pre-lottery rankings. The San Jose Sharks will have the second overall selection.
The consensus first overall pick is defenseman Matthew Schaefer, who notched seven goals, 22 points, and a +21 rating in 17 OHL games with the Erie Otters. To see the full rankings by NHL Central Scouting, click here.

The New York Rangers will have the option to transfer their first-round pick this June or next to Vancouver as a condition of the selection that they traded for J.T. Miller on January 31.
If Calgary’s pick was in the top 10, they would have transferred the Florida Panthers’ first-round pick to the Montreal Canadiens as part of the trade that sent Sean Monahan to Montreal on August 22, 2022.
All teams could have moved up just 10 spots from where they finished in the reverse regular-season standings but down by only two.
