‘Tough on my kids’ – Tom Brady’s confession as decision backfires – Football – Sports

Tom Brady has shared a candid moment about his feelings following ‘The Roast of Tom Brady.’

While enjoying the initial event, his perspective shifted after speaking with his children. The star-studded roast, held at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, where athletes and comedians took turns poking fun at Brady, was all good fun until it hit close to home and aired on Netflix.

But despite maintaining his composure for most of the show, Brady – who has reacted to Shedeur Sanders’ slide in the NFL Draft – admits he bristled at a joke that targeted New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft.

Yet his silence when ex-wife Gisele Bundchen’s name cropped up seemed to resonate more painfully with their kids, including John, whom he shares with Bridget Moynahan, and Benjamin and Vivian, with Bundchen. The roast reportedly did not sit well with Benjamin and Vivian, as Brady recognized the challenges his children faced through the experience.

Brady, who now contributes insights as a FOX Sports analyst, began his relationship with Bundchen in 2006, leading to marriage in 2009. Following their divorce in 2022, ending a 13-year union, Bundchen moved on romantically with her jiu-jitsu instructor, Joaquim Valente, and they now have had a child together.

Yet it was these very situations that furnished material for the comedians at the roast, with zingers like Nikki Glaser’s jab: “Tom, the only thing dumber than you saying ‘yes’ to this roast was when you said, ‘Hey babe, you should try jiu-jitsu.'”

Glazer quipped during their exchange: “You have seven rings… well, eight now that Gisele gave hers back.”

Brady, although he appeared to take the joke in stride at the time, admitted on the ‘Impaulsive’ podcast that this affected his children with Bundchen deeply. “It was tough on my kids for sure,” Brady said. “You don’t know what to expect and I love laughing at myself, it felt like I was in the locker room. And the harder people go at me, I’ll actually love it.

“If people make fun of you, then I know I’m good with them. And I don’t take myself too serious but I do understand that for my kids, that was really hard. There are some things as a parent you f— up and you don’t realize until after. We’re not perfect parents. There’s no perfect manual for it and you have to evaluate yourself as a parent too all the time.

“So even though I really enjoyed the show and the performances were incredible – and when you were in that moment, in that theater that night at the Forum (in Los Angeles), it was electric. It was crazy.

“We got done and everybody was on cloud nine. And that moment I’ll never forget. And I’ll never forget when I talked to my kids the next day, and I felt like a stake through the heart – and understandably.

“They’re protective of their mom, of their dad, of everybody. ‘What was the point of that? Why did you do that?’ You live and you learn.”

A star-studded lineup including Rob Gronkowski, Randy Moss, Bill Belichick, Robert Kraft, Will Ferrell, and Kim Kardashian were among those who roasted Brady during the recording. Page Six reported that Bundchen was upset with Brady for not defending his personal life, and his prioritization of football played a role in their divorce.
