Beresford and Sewell to work at World Championships

The Elite Ice Hockey League is delighted to confirm two assignments for the top level of the 2025 IIHF World Ice Hockey Championships.

Linesman Danny Beresford has been selected as one of 16 linesmen for the event. Beresford worked the 2025 Playoff Final as part of the 2024/25 Elite League season. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to be going back to the World Championships, this time in Denmark and Sweden,” he said. “It’s a perfect way to top off an enjoyable season in the Elite League. It has of course been made possible thanks to the continuous support this year from all my team mates, our Head of Hockey Operations Liam Sewell, and also by Michael Hicks who helped me greatly both on and off the ice in previous seasons.”

Beresford previously lined at the 2022 and 2024 championships in Helsinki and Tampere.

Also working at this year’s event is the EIHL’s Head of Hockey Operations Liam Sewell, who has been seconded by the IIHF to assist in the tournament Situation Room. Sewell previously officiated at the top level of world ice hockey and went all the way to the bronze medal game in 2023.

The Situation Room will be in direct contact with game officials in both venues for video review decisions. “I’m thrilled to be part of the Situation Room team for this event,” said Sewell. “Working at the highest tournament in world ice hockey this season alongside some very experienced and knowledgeable colleagues will be hugely beneficial, and I’m excited to see what I can learn to bring back to the Elite League.”
