6-Banner Sunday: Mike Woodson returns to NBA, pens farewell to Hoosier Nation – Inside the Hall

Welcome to another edition of 6-Banner Sunday, a joint production between The Assembly Call and Inside the Hall, where we highlight the five most essential IU basketball stories of the past week, plus take a look at how the other IU sports programs are doing.

For the first time in several weeks, no roster additions occurred for IU basketball.

However, that did not stop Hoosier news from occurring. The biggest news of the week was Mike Woodson returning to the NBA and an announcement about this summer’s TBT team.

Here is what is in this week’s edition:

• Mike Woodson returns to the NBA
• Yogi Ferrell, James Blackmon Jr. join IU’s TBT team, “Assembly Ball”
• Roster updates, interviews with Josh Harris and Trent Sisley
• Indiana offers several class of 2026 prospects
• Podcast on the Brink and Back Home Network shows
• Hoosier Roundup

Banner #1 – Mike Woodson returns to the NBA

Despite his recent departure from IU, former coach Mike Woodson did not stay out of the game for long. Instead, he is returning to his roots in the NBA, where he will reportedly join new Sacramento Kings coach Doug Christie’s staff.

Woodson also made his first public statement since his separation from the Hoosiers. Also, all of Woodson’s assistants have found new gigs at other colleges. Finally, his squad recorded a perfect APR score with all 24 sports having their numbers announced.

Banner #2 – Yogi Ferrell, James Blackmon Jr. join IU’s TBT team, “Assembly Ball”

Last summer, a long-awaited TBT team featuring IU basketball alumni finally came together. Now ‘Assembly Ball’ comes back for a second straight July.

The squad will once again be headlined by Yogi Ferrell. A new addition was also announced in James Blackmon Jr. The competition will begin at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, giving plenty of Hoosier fans a chance to attend, with tickets available here. Games begin on July 19. The number of Indiana supporters purchasing tickets will determine how long they can continue competition in their proverbial backyard.

Once again, the tournament champion wins $1 million. The final game of the event will be on August 3.

Banner #3 – Roster updates, interviews with Josh Harris and Trent Sisley

While no new players joined the Hoosiers this week, other news in regards to the roster still occurred. Of the 11 players who have committed for the 2025-2026 season, 10 of them are out of the portal, and these transfers rank highly according to the recruiting services. The most recent of these commits, Josh Harris, spoke with Inside the Hall about his choice to come to Bloomington, as did incoming freshman Trent Sisley, who is thought of highly by most recruiting services.

Other Big Ten schools made out well here also. As a result, several are thought of highly for next year on a national level.

Banner #4 – Indiana offers several class of 2026 prospects

With the roster for this coming season nearly complete now, new IU coach Darian DeVries has turned to high school recruiting.

DeVries has offered scholarships this week to multiple elite players for 2026.

Banner #5 – Podcast on the Brink and Back Home Network shows

Podcast on the Brink returned this week. On it, Assembly Call’s Ryan Phillips crossed over to discuss the offseason.

The Back Home Network was also on air multiple times in the last few days. Assembly Call RadioCrimson CastDoing The Work, and Xs and Joes all had shows this week.
