Bennedict Mathurin ejected in first minute of Game 4 appearance

Scott Agness: Bennedict Mathurin ejected in his first minute — Flagrant 2 for striking De’Andre Hunter first. Technical foul on Hunter and Turner. That’s bad. And a win for the Cavs. Mathurin led the Pacers in Game 3 with 23pts.

Not sure how that Mathurin-Hunter thing turned into the Cavs getting two shots and the ball. Hard to justify why both guys didn’t get the same punishment there. – 8:36 PM

I probably would have ejected both Mathurin and Hunter, or kept both of them in. Mathurin has been instigating all series and that had to be kept under control, but Hunter escalated it significantly there. I don’t love keeping one and tossing the other. – 8:36 PM

Mathurin acted like he wouldn’t get caught for that, like there aren’t a million eyes in the sky – 8:32 PM

Mathurin ejected (Flagrant 2) for hitting DeAndre Hunter with a “closed fist” to the chest, leading to Hunter’s retaliatory shove. Technicals to Myles Turner and Hunter. – 8:32 PM

Mathurin took a shot to the midsection of Hunter, which drew his ire. Been awhile since I’ve seen someone just walk up on someone like that in a game that mattered like Hunter did. – 8:30 PM

Pacers had it rolling, up 22-10. Have to wonder how this long stoppage impacts play when it resumes.
Mathurin hut Hunter, who then retaliated with a hard shove worth a Flagrant 2, though I hope it’s not. – 8:29 PM

Mathurin has done his job. Packed up the whole Cavaliers bench. – 9:52 PM

Double technicals on De’Andre Hunter and Benn Mathurin.

Great job by Mathurin running into Mitchell as he was still moving after the handoff. That’s a guaranteed chance to pick up an offensive foul if he’s impeded in that situation. He’s been quite the irritant in this series. – 8:51 PM
Fred Katz @FredKatz
Wow, that is such a costly foul from Darius Garland playing with three fouls and then shoving Mathurin 80 feet from his own hoop. – 8:42 PM

More on this storyline

James Boyd: #Pacers guard Bennedict Mathurin just got ejected for hitting De’Andre Hunter with “a closed fist” to his mid-section, according to the officials. Hunter and Myles Turner were given technicals. 4:32 left in the 1Q. -via Twitter @RomeovilleKid / May 11, 2025
Scott Agness: All 3 injured players returned and contributed as the Cavs led the entire way, outworked the Pacers and owned the paint. Pacers lose 126-104 with the series now 2-1. Mitchell scored 43. Mathurin led IND with 23. Just 4/5a from Haliburton. Next: G4 Sunday. -via x.com / May 9, 2025
With the late-game heroics, Haliburton became just the second player in the play-by-play era (since 1997-98) with multiple go-ahead field goals in the final two seconds in a single postseason. The other? LeBron James. It was the kind of performance, Haliburton’s teammates have come to expect from him. “He’s been making big plays,” guard Bennedict Mathurin said. “People are still surprised, shockingly. He’s been making big plays at big, big times.” “Quite frankly,” Pacers center Myles Turner added, “that boy cold, man.” -via New York Times / May 7, 2025
