Carolina Hurricanes Overcome Washington Capitals In 5-2 Victory, Push Washington To Brink Of Elimination

The Washington Capitals lost to the Carolina Hurricanes at Lenovo Center on Monday night by a score of 5-2 to fall behind in the best-of-seven Stanley Cup Playoff second-round series 3-1. Goaltender Logan Thompson made 32 saves in the loss.

  • 8:24, 3-1: Hall got in on a breakaway, took a stretch pass from Roslovic at the offensive blueline, and beat Thompson under the blocker.
  • 12:14, 3-2 (PPG): Ovechkin bombed a slapper from the top of the left dot past the blocker of Andersen after getting a cross-ice feed from Strome. Ovechkin passed Mario Lemieux (76) for the 12th-most postseason goals in NHL history and Nicklas Lidstrom (30) and Joe Pavelski (30) for the fifth-most postseason power-play goals in NHL history. Strome’s nine assists are tied for fourth in the NHL, while his 11 points are tied for seventh.
  • 16:45, 4-2: Walker rushed into the offensive zone after Hall chipped it up the wall, put the brakes on, stepped in, and ripped a shot over the glove of Thompson.
