Celtics draft Neemias Queta’s former college teammate with 57th pick

The Celtics have selected Max Shulga with the 57th pick in the 2025 draft. The 23-year-old Ukrainian spent three years at Utah State and his last two seasons at VCU, averaging 10.1 points and shooting 39.2% from three throughout his career.

Jonathan Givony of Draft Express describes Shulga as a “39% 3-point shooter across five college seasons, Shulga offers did quite a bit of playmaking for VCU, being named Atlantic 10 player of the year.”

He had a particularly strong senior season, averaging 15 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 4 assists in 35 games.

In addition, the Celtics drafted Kentucky center Amari Williams with the 46th pick, in addition to Spanish guard Hugo Gonzalez on Wednesday night with the 28th selection. Williams, a strong passer and rebounder, played four seasons at Drexel before transferring to Kentucky.

The Celtics were reportedly eyeing Rasheer Fleming with the 32nd pick, but the Phoenix Suns traded up to select him with the 31st pick. In turn, Brad Stevens traded the No. 32 pick to the Orlando Magic for Nos. 46 and 57, a 2026 second-rounder and a 2027 second-rounder, replenishing their draft capital and walking away with two picks in the second round of the draft.
