With the fifth overall pick in the NHL Draft, the Preds have selected center Brady Martin.
Martin played for the Soo St. Marie Greyhounds last season, and represented Canada at the WJC, wearing an A for both teams. Almost every scouting organization had him set to go in the first half of the first round, and although he came off the board a little earlier than expected, the Preds remain in dire need of a strong center.
He was described by Elite Prospects as a physical, hard-hitting player with skill and speed and a solid defensive presence. He also had 72 points in 57 games for the Greyhounds, with 33 goals and 39 assists, as well as 11 points (3G/8A) for Team Canada’s U18s in seven games at the World Juniors.
