The New York Rangers 2025 NHL Draft wrapped up with their final picks, selecting two defensemen and one wing in the final two rounds of the draft. The Blueshirts had two picks in the sixth round, taking winger Samuel Jung at 166th overall and defenseman Evan Passmore at 171st overall. In the seventh round, the Rangers took defenseman Felix Farhammar. All three followed the same theme of big kids.
Jung, an overager out of Finland, put up 22-10-32 in 44 games with Karpat’s U20 team. The 6’3, 175 lb winger was a bit of a reach and wasn’t ranked by many people, but the Rangers clearly saw something in him. That’s all I could find on him, so I’ll defer to Will and Hope when they write their recaps later.
Passmore, a 6’5, 212 lb defenseman out of Barrie in the OHL, put up 3-8-11 with the Colts this past season. Obviously he’s not a noted scorer and he’s a project pick, but he has some nice tools that could develop nicely. Passmore is, if anything, steady and reliable. He needs to work on his skating, mobility, and edgework, which seems normal given his size. He is multiple years away.
Farhammar, aside from having a fantastic name, is another 6’1 defenseman out of Sweden. The Swedes are simply built different, and they are solid all around. Farhammar has a long way to go as a 7th round pick.
All three of Jung, Passmore, and Farhammar project to be bottom of the lineup players. The Rangers 2025 NHL Draft wrapped up with size over skill, but that doesn’t mean the kids don’t have skill, if that makes sense.
