Kevin Weekes is reporting that the New York Rangers are a front runner for KHL winger Maxim Shabanov. Shabanov, who is Vitali Kratsov‘s teammate with Traktor, led his team in scoring with a line of 23-44-67 in 65 games and 10-10-20 in 21 playoff games. Shabanov stands at just 5’8″ tall, but he’s shifty and skilled. The Rangers are competing with the Islanders, Utah, and the Flyers, per Weekes.
Maxim Shabanov doesn’t really seem like a Chris Drury target. He’s short, even though he’s skilled, he’s Drury’s least favorite prospect’s teammate, and he’s another winger. It never hurts to load up on talent, but this one barely passes the sniff test.
