Morgan Frost signed a two-year, $8.75 million contract with the Calgary Flames on Thursday. It has an average annual value of $4.375 million.
The 26-year-old forward was a restricted free agent. He had 37 points (14 goals, 23 assists) in 81 games for the Philadelphia Flyers and Flames last season, including 12 points (three goals, nine assists) in 32 games for Calgary after he was acquired in a trade on Jan. 31.
Frost said he believes he has more to give offensively.
“For sure, yeah, I do,” he said Thursday, “Hopefully a little more luck here and there, some more bounces, but at the same time I know I can do more and put up more.
“I was proud and happy with the team, the way we finished the season (11-2-3 in their last 16 games on the way to a 41-27-14 finish, fourth in the Pacific Division). Obviously that was the focus, just trying to win games, but then at the same time I know I can contribute more individually. Hoping to bring that over the next two years, for sure.”
Selected by Philadelphia in the first round (No. 27) of the 2017 NHL Draft, Frost has 147 points (53 goals, 94 assists) in 310 games for the Flyers and Flames.
Frost said he is eager to start training camp and this season with Calgary.
“I already feel more comfortable now that I’m going to go back there now that I’ve had some time,” he said. “That was the first time I’ve ever been traded or basically ever played for a new team other than moving from junior to pro. That was an adjustment for me, but at the same time everyone at the rink, coaches and teammates, they all made me feel welcome and made it easy on me.
“I have no excuses in that sense, but at the same time having a full summer and getting to go through training camp and start on a fresh note, I’m definitely excited about. It’ll only do good things for me.”
