Devin Haney chose to shove Brian Norman Jr. today during their face-off at the press conference in New York to promote their November 22nd fight in Riyadh. During the face-off, Devin (32-0, 15 KOs) got right in the face of WBO welterweight champion Norman Jr., mouthing off at him with a sinister smile on his face.
Physical Mismatch: Haney, Norman
Norman Jr. (28-0, 22 KOs) finally got tired of listening to Haney bark at him, and he casually gave him a push to move him out of his personal space. Haney reacted by giving Brian Jr. a shove with full force, sending him back two feet.
Interestingly, even with Devin putting maximum power in his shove, he could barely move Norman Jr. at all. What this means is that Haney is overmatched physically by Brian Jr.
You can’t blame Norman Jr. for initiating the minor altercation. Devin was way too close and talking mess a mile a minute.
Thankfully, Devin’s bodyguard didn’t appear out of nowhere and grab Norman Jr. by the shirt like he did yesterday when the two were in a heated conversation in the hallway. That would have been the icing on the cake if that guy jumped Norman again like yesterday.
Today’s press conference shove was a continuation of Haney playing a tough guy, acting like a killer rather than the finesse-level fighter he is, with a Jerry-esque style of fighting. It appears that Haney has adopted a stage persona, acting like something he’s not.
Bill Haney: Absent From Stage
Usually, his dad, Bill, is doing all the trash-talking for him because he’s so much better at it. I saw Bill out in the audience, far away from the stage. He probably wasn’t happy about not being on the stage to do the talking for Devin.
The tough guy act that Haney is doing will fall flat if he gets destroyed by Norman Jr. on November 22nd.
