Alan Wake 2 Anniversary Update Brings New Accessibility Options and More Tomorrow

Remedy has announced the Alan Wake 2 Anniversary Update, which is being released tomorrow to commemorate the game’s upcoming first anniversary. The update will bring a number of new quality-of-life improvements and accessibility options to the survival horror game.

Per an announcement on the official Alan Wake website, the Anniversary Update will be completely free for all players and is intended to address some of the most “frequently requested” changes on behalf of the game’s community.

Each of the improvements is relatively small by itself, but they should all add up to a smoother and more satisfying gameplay experience in Alan Wake 2, while the accessibility features should help you out if you’re having a rough time with the game.

Alan Wake 2 is getting an anniversary update tomorrow.

Changes include the ability to invert the X axis on both mouse and controller, as well as new gyro aiming support and extra haptic feedback for healing items and throwables for the DualSense on PS5.

A new Gameplay Assist menu is also being introduced as part of Alan Wake 2‘s Anniversary Update, and it will, per Remedy, introduce the following features to the game.

  • Quick turn
  • Auto complete QTE
  • Button tapping to single tap
  • Weapon charging with taps
  • Healing items with taps
  • Lightshifter with taps
  • Player invulnerability
  • Player immortality
  • One shot kill
  • Infinite ammo
  • Infinite flashlight batteries

Of course, you’ll be able to turn any of these on and off as you see fit, so if you want to mix and match your accessibility features, you can do so.

The announcement of this update comes just a few days after the reveal of Alan Wake 2‘s second DLC pack The Lake House during last week’s Xbox Partner Preview show, which is also when Remedy unveiled its multiplayer Control spinoff FBC: Firebreak.

If you happen to be in the Finnish cities of Helsinki or Vantaa tomorrow and you fancy picking up a phsyical copy of the Alan Wake 2 Deluxe Edition, you might want to get to Konsolinet or VPD Pelikauppa quickly, because if you’re one of the first 50 buyers, you’ll get a free Alan Wake 2 bucket.

Alan Wake 2 is available right now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The Anniversary Update arrives tomorrow. You can check out our review of Remedy’s second mind-bending horror adventure here.
