Anthony Davis hit the game-winning shot for Dallas on Wednesday vs. Atlanta

Since the Lakers and Mavericks made a trade at the deadline, their seasons have been quite the opposite. Los Angeles is a three-seed in the West. Dallas is the ninth seed and will fight for a playoff spot in the play-in tournament.

When the Mavs traded Luka Doncic to Los Angeles, Dallas received NBA champion Anthony Davis in return. However, Davis was injured upon arrival in Dallas. In his first game, he suffered a setback and missed time. The 32-year-old has played in six games for the Mavericks in 2024-25. On Wednesday night, Davis hit a clutch floater that won the game for Dallas.

Anthony Davis won the game for Dallas on Wednesday night

Anthony Davis’ tenure with the Mavericks has been a bumpy start. He was injured when Dallas acquired him but Davis tried playing. In his first game with the Mavs, he had 26 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists, and three blocks. However, Davis did re-injure his groin and proceeded to miss 18 consecutive games. The 10-time all-star has played in five of his last six games.

Davis had his best performance as a Maverick on Wednesday night vs. the Hawks. In the second quarter, Davis took an elbow to the eye. Despite missing most of that quarter, Davis finished the game with 34 points, 15 rebounds, and five blocks. His 34 points and five blocks are new personnel bests with Dallas. When healthy, Davis is one of the most dominant big men in the NBA.

Staying healthy for a full season has been a major hurdle in his career. Especially since the start of the 2021-22 season. Regardless, Davis dominates when he’s available and he did that on Wednesday night. He hit the game-winning floater with 3.4 seconds left on the clock. Dallas won the game 120-118. How far can an All-NBA talent like Anthony Davis take this Mavs roster in the postseason?
