Bears Down Checkers, 4-1; Pierrick Dube Scores Twice, Henrik Rybinski Scores First Goal Of The Season

The Hershey Bears downed the Charlotte Checkers, 4-1 Wednesday night at the Giant Center in Hershey. Mike Vecchione scored on the power play in the first and Henrik Rybinski added a short-handed tally and Pierrick Dube added his 18th and 19th goals of the season in the win. The victory improves the Bears record to 28-6-0 on the season.

LINEUP

Clay Stevenson (12-4-0-5, 1.70 GAA, .937 sv%) got the start between the pipes for the Bears. Spencer Knight (9-5-3-2, 2.54 GAA, .904 sv%) got the start in goal for the visiting Checkers. The forward lines and defensive pairs for the Bears:

1ST PERIOD

The Checkers opened the scoring less than three minutes into the contest. Justin Sourdif (6) notched the Checkers first tally at at 2:25 of the first period. Dennis Cesana (1) and Uvis Balinskis (7) had the helpers.

The Bears answered back with a power play goal from Mike Vecchione (9) at 6:58 of the opening stanza. Alex Limoges (16) and Pierrick Dubé (6) had the assists.

The first frame concluded with the game tied, 1-1. Hershey led in shots on goal, 9-4. Charlotte was 0 for 1 and Hershey 1 for 2 on the power play in the first 20 minutes.


2ND PERIOD

The Bears took a 2-1 lead midway through the middle frame. Henrik Rybinski (1) scored a short-handed tally at 10:05 of the second period. Aaron Ness (10) and Jimmy Huntington (9) had the helpers.

The Bears made it 3-1 late in the period on Pierrick Dube‘s 18th goal of the season at 16:04. Jimmy Huntington (10) and Lucas Johansen (3) had the assists.

The Bears held the two-goal lead into the second intermission. The Checkers led in shots 15-8 in the second period and 19-17 through 40 minutes of play. Charlotte was 0 for 2 and Hershey 1 for 3 on the power play after two periods.


THIRD PERIOD

The Bears stretched their lead to 4-1 on Pierrick Dube’s second goal of the game. The shot went over the goal, back of the boards and in.

That would be the final.
