University of North Carolina head football coach Bill Belichick has broken his silence since the contentious CBS interview, asserting that his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, plays no role in the Tar Heels’ football operations.
During an appearance on ESPN’s SportsCenter at the ACC Spring Meetings, Belichick made it clear that his relationship with Hudson is strictly personal and separate from his coaching duties. “It’s off to the side, a personal relationship,” he declared.
“She doesn’t have anything to do with UNC football. I’m excited to be back in the coaches meetings and getting ready for June, then August when we get to training camp.”
The clarification follows a period of intense media speculation after Hudson unexpectedly became part of a CBS interview about their relationship, leading to rumors about her involvement in UNC football matters.
Further adding fuel to the fire were reports claiming Hudson had been barred from UNC athletic facilities, which the university refuted, clarifying that while she isn’t on the payroll, she’s still welcome on campus and handles Belichick’s personal branding independently of his coaching job.
At 73, Belichick, who assumed the helm of UNC’s football program in December 2024, has navigated the complexities of shifting from pro to college football. Despite these off-field issues, his primary focus remains on gearing up the team for the forthcoming season.
“June will be a big recruiting month for us, and then August, we’ll start getting ready for the season,” he noted.
The coach also made it clear to his players that his personal situation will not impact the team’s objectives. “We want to make the players the best that they can be, provide them the best opportunity on and off the field, and that’s what we’re about at UNC,” Belichick declared.
As he steps into his first season with the Tar Heels, Belichick is set on shifting the focus back to the field. With recruitment underway and training camp in sight, the seasoned coach plans to imbue the UNC program with the same disciplined approach he showcased in the NFL.
