The Quinfall – so named to apparently distinguish itself from the other, lesser quinfalls – made news during a slow beta cycle by deciding that it wants you to pay money for beta testing. And the developers are calling that the open beta. So that’s definitely not making anyone suspicious or call the game out by name as a scam. Sure, let’s go with that.
Meanwhile, in Korea, Throne & Liberty has made such a big impact that the game is already merging servers. It launched a month ago. We’d all be more inclined to fixate on this if NCsoft hadn’t just done something that’s such good news you almost want to support the game just out of affection for that. Not the best harbinger for the game’s launch in the US later this year, though.
This was a quiet week for beta news in the extreme, but let’s be real, there is still a list of games in testing down below and our roundup of beta news just above that. Just as always, if you see something that has jumped test phases or even just want to share stories from your beta experiences not under NDA, head on down to the comments.

We consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s often under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed, nor will games that are NFT/blockchain scams; we also do not list expansions, with occasional exceptions. Finally, we’ll mark games “malingering” if they’ve been in a certain tier of development for a long time with no clear path to launch.

Yes, MMO gamers, you too can perform the unpaid quality-control work otherwise known as game testing! Check out Massively Overpowered’s Betawatch every week for a run-down of MMOs that are still on the road to launch, even if they appear to have set up a permanent residence in a shed called early access.
