Bill Belichick waited two days before contacting UNC after his ill-fated CBS interview was aired, according to newly-released emails from the university.
Belichick’s NBC interview couldn’t have gone much worse, with the legendary head coach making headlines for all the wrong reasons. After giving some responses about the transition from the NFL to college football, Belichick was asked about his relationship with Jordon Hudson, which seems to have captured the nation’s attention.
When asked about how the two met, however, Hudson interjected before the former New England Patriot had the chance to answer. The response sparked a media frenzy, with all sorts of reports emerging about the beauty pageant contestant’s growing influence in Belichick’s life on and off the sideline.
According to newly-released information from the university, via Awful Announcing, Belichick contacted the university on April 29, which was two days after CBS had aired the interview.
Curiously, Belichick’s contact had also been made on the same day Hudson posted for the first time, vowing to release a public statement on the matter.
Belichick’s message to Beth Keith, a senior associate vice chancellor in the Office of Unviersity Communications, read: “I’m still working thru the situation with the publisher/Inkwell. I apologize for the delays here – I don’t want to make a wrong move.”
Belichick, 72, is the highest-paid public official in the state of North Carolina, raking in $10 million annually in a taxpayer-funded salary.
Due to the 72-year-old’s standing in the game, his prestige and the nature of his contract, many had been confused as to why Hudson, 24, was present at the CBS interview in the first place. The interview was meant to plug his upcoming book ‘The Art of Winning: Lessons from My Life in Football’.
But Belichick explained in an email to UNC staff that he and Hudson had “both a personal and professional relationship,” that was “not a secret”.

He wrote: “Jordon was present at the CBS interview because David Kass, the Simon & Schuster publicist, was not there. I included Jordon in the book acknowledgments because she was a creative contributor to the book, including having the idea for formatting the 4 special pages in the book.”
He added: “Jordon assists me with my personal media, which is why I asked UNC to forward media requests (E.G. CBS 60 Minutes) to her. Jordon has zero involvement in the UNC football program, beyond the degree that my personal media intersects with it.”
