The transfer portal closed April 22, but college basketball programs continue to add to their rosters this spring.
Most Big Ten programs have 10 or more players, but several programs still have significant holes to fill.
Here are some of the key numbers to know about the transfer portal’s impact on the Big Ten this spring:
Transfer portal departures by school
Every Big Ten program had transfer portal attrition this spring, but some were hit harder than others.
According to our record keeping on our Big Ten rosters page, 87 scholarship players from 2024-25 rosters entered the transfer portal during the window from March 24- April 22. Last year, the number was 79. This does not include players who entered the portal without eligibility remaining.
Three schools stood out in terms of portal attrition and each program had a coaching change this spring. Iowa had 10 portal departures, Maryland had nine and Indiana had eight.
The Hawkeyes replaced Fran McCaffery with Ben McCollum, Maryland replaced Buzz Williams with Kevin Willard, who left for Villanova and the Hoosiers hired Darian DeVries to take over for Mike Woodson.
