Paradox has announced that the long-awaited Cities: Skylines 2 console ports won’t be coming before summer, an announcement the publisher says is aimed at “set[ting] expectations clearly”.
In a news update on Steam, Paradox says that while “steady progress” is being made on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of Cities: Skylines 2 (no PS4 or Xbox One port here, sadly), there are “more things [the studio needs] to address” before it reaches the “level of quality” expected by players.
The publisher goes on to say that in order to “avoid any premature estimates”, more information will only be provided when Paradox is “closer to a launch-ready state”. It sounds like the studio is still quite a ways off that goal.
In case you need a reminder, the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of Cities: Skylines 2 were originally intended to launch alongside the PC version of the game, but were pushed back to spring 2024 shortly before the PC version’s release.
Following that, the console versions of Cities: Skylines 2 were delayed once again in April last year, and while Paradox said at the time that it was targeting a release build for October, the studio announced in July that this goal wouldn’t be met.
At this stage, I’d honestly be surprised if we ever get a concrete release date for Cities: Skylines 2 on consoles, and given the game’s extensive problems on PC at launch, perhaps that would be for the best. Still, it seems Paradox is hard at work on the console version, so we’ll have to wait and see.

Of course, the aforementioned issues weren’t enough to stop Cities: Skylines 2 selling a million copies on PC by the end of 2023, which was a particularly impressive milestone given that the game is also available as part of PC Game Pass.
You can check out Cities: Skylines 2 right now on PC via Steam. It’s also available as part of a Game Pass membership if you’re signed up to the PC or Ultimate plans.
