Damian Lillard on retirement: I know I'll be able to play until I'm 39, 40

Damian Lillard: “I definitely don’t see myself as somebody who’s just hanging on. I know I’ll be able to play until I’m 39, 40. I could play and be a starter until that point—especially with the way the game is now. You’re starting to see players playing longer and longer. CP, Bron—you’re starting to see them. They might not be who they were at 26, no—but they’re still top-of-the-line players. Because they take care of themselves. I take care of myself. I don’t live a hard life.”

The Bucks have improved so much at actually getting Brook Lopez the ball in the post the last three weeks.
They started attempting to do it when Lillard first went out, but now they enter the ball to him pretty easily. – 8:36 PM

More on this storyline

“Would you say he was the guy that you probably had the most battles with? Or Kai? Or Steph?” Damian Lillard: “Definitely Russ. I would say Steph, because I’ve played more playoff series against Steph. And obviously, being in the West, we played each other all those times—even preseason. I’ve seen a lot of both of them. But I played Steph in more playoff series. As far as it being personal? It was more me against Russ. With Steph, it was always like—Steph took off, and I was chasing. I wanted what he had. He’s winning championships, everybody’s talking about him. So I was very competitive with Steph—especially in those years where I was like, ‘No, I can do that too.’” -via YouTube / April 12, 2025
How many more years do you want to play?” Damian Lillard: “It’s all a feeling thing. You’ll know when you know. That’s all it is—a feeling. Because I’m in a position where I’m going to get to walk away from it. You know what I mean? All of us—we just don’t get the call no more. You know what I mean? Like: ‘Did they call you back?’ ‘Ah, they said they’re not interested…’ You’re not going to call a team and be like, ‘Hey, I’m walking away.’ Right? And that’s not even something that’s in my spectrum right now. I’m 34.” -via YouTube / April 12, 2025
