Deion’s Browns criticism resurfaces after Shedeur landed in Cleveland – Football – Sports

Deion Sanders has shared his views on the Cleveland Browns over the years, which might land his son shedeur in an awkward situation after he was picked by the AFC North team in the NFL Draft. On Saturday, the Browns moved up in the fifth round to draft Shedeur with the 144th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

This marked the end of one of the more notable slides; the Colorado quarterback, who had been touted as a top prospect, fell out of the second, third, and fourth rounds, leading some fans to question if he might return to college. During Thursday night’s first round, the Browns had an opportunity to pick from a pool of top players but opted to trade down from the No. 2 pick, ultimately moving to No. 5 after the Jacksonville Jaguars selected Travis Hunter.

The Browns then chose defensive powerhouse Mason Graham from Michigan, which left the Sanders family puzzled.

Shedeur and Deion were spotted having a conversation about the quarterback roster of the Browns, highlighting that the team currently has Joe Flacco as their QB. “Flacco’s my age,” Sanders remarked although then made it clear that he respects Flacco’s playing abilities.

Flacco may be 17 years younger than Sanders, but at 40, he’s hardly the long-term answer for the Browns, who brought him back earlier this offseason. Impressively, Flacco steered the Browns to a playoff berth in 2023, taking the reins as starting quarterback late in the season and clinching the Comeback Player of the Year award.

Following the Tennessee Titans’ selection of Cam Ward as the No. 1 overall pick, the New York Giants made a move back into the tail end of the first round to snag a quarterback.

Colorado head coach Sanders was spotted monitoring the situation, only to see Jaxson Dart get snapped up by Big Blue. Eventually, the Browns added both Sanders and fellow signal-caller Dillon Gabriel in the following rounds.

And the elder Sanders might not be thrilled with Shedeur’s move to Cleveland.

In March 2018, before the Browns drafted Baker Mayfield first overall, he expressed his reluctance to join the team on social media: “I love what the @Browns have done this offseason but if im a young QB ain’t no way im going to Cleveland. I would pull a ELI MANNING If possible. #ThinkAboutthat #Truth.”

On the flip side, Shedeur couldn’t be happier to have been selected by the Browns. Sporting a Cleveland cap, he broke into dance while his draft celebration was broadcast live on his brother Shilo’s Twitch channel.

Sanders then expressed his gratitude, saying: “Thank you everybody for your support. Thank you to the fans. Thank you for the Browns organization for giving me a chance.”

In a joyful outburst, Sanders sprinted out of his house, shed his shirt, and dove into the swimming pool to mark the occasion. He then shared his elation on social media, posting: “Thank you GOD.”
