President Donald Trump, alongside Commissioner Roger Goodell and Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris, is poised to announce that Washington, D.C. will be the host city for the 2027 NFL Draft.
Trump, a fervent football fan at 78, who was seen at college football games last season and celebrated the Philadelphia Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in New Orleans, will stand with Goodell and Harris on Monday to make the announcement.
This marks the third football-related announcement in recent weeks, following his hosting of the Ohio State Buckeyes at the White House to celebrate their national championship win, where he employed a clever tactic to appear taller, and a meeting with an absent Jalen Hurts’ Eagles last week, during which Trump shared his bizarre reasoning for not standing next to team owner Jeffrey Lurie.
According to Axios, Trump will declare on Monday, flanked by NFL Commissioner Goodell and Commanders Owner Harris, that the NFL Draft will take place in Washington D. C.
in 2027. The draft in the Capital will follow this year’s event in Green Bay, where Shedeur Sanders experienced a dramatic drop to the fifth round, and next year’s in Pittsburgh.
The decision to bring the NFL Draft to D. C. coincides with the Commanders’ recent announcement of their return to the city in 2030, complete with a brand new stadium.
The latest buzz suggests that the 2027 NFL Draft could be a monumental event set against the iconic backdrop of the National Mall. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s vision for Washington D. C. stretches further, as he sees potential for the city to play host to a Super Bowl, thanks in part to the Commanders’ prospective new stadium.
“I really do think this community could be a great host for a Super Bowl,” Goodell expressed, per ESPN. “The [new] stadium is always the missing piece.”
In an intriguing twist, there’s chatter about the Commanders possibly reverting to their former moniker, the Redskins. This comes on the heels of a franchise-altering move last year when they snagged LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels in the first round of the NFL Draft.
