IBF welterweight champion Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis says he can’t wait “to have my fun” in his unification fight against WBA 147-lb champ Eimantas Stanionis this Saturday, April 12th, in their headliner, live on DAZN.
Fun and Jinxes
Jaron should have held off on the “have my fun” line because that was a jinx for him during his rematch with Karen Chukhadzhian last November. He looked at his all-time worst in that fight, getting outboxed and outpunched by Karen.
Ennis, 27, is still saying he wants to remain at 147 until he finishes collecting all four belts so he can use that as bragging rights to follow in the footsteps of Terence Crawford. He’s got the size to compete at 154 right now, but he is choosing to stay at welterweight until he reaches his end goal.
“It’s cool that they’re all saying my name, but my mind is locked in on Stanionis. I’m not worried about those guys at the moment,” said Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis to YSM Sports Media about his fight against Eimantas Stanionis on Saturday. “I’m just locked in on becoming the unified champion of the world.”
Boots should have accepted the offer to fight Vergil Ortiz Jr. for his WBC interim junior middleweight title on the Riyadh Season card on February 22nd. The boxing public saw that as a sign of fear on Ennis’s part, and that was the beginning of people jumping off his hype train.
Ennis’s Promise
“Right now, the only thing I see is the Ring Magazine, WBA, and my IBF title around my waist,” said Boots. “After that, we can talk about that, but right now, I’m just focused on what’s in front of me. I’m going to put on a great performance. I’m going to show out.
“I’m going to have my fun. I’m going to give y’all what you’re looking for. I can’t wait. I’m excited,” said Ennis.

Ennis (33-0, 29 KOs) has to look a lot better in this fight than he has in recent fights because his fans have been giving up on him, viewing him as just a product of the soft matchmaking that had been done for him up until his 29th pro fight.
