Xbox has announced that the upcoming Fable reboot, which is currently in development by Forza studio Playground Games, has been delayed until 2026.
In a new episode of the official Xbox podcast, Xbox’s Craig Duncan, who took over from former Xbox Game Studios head Alan Hartman last year, confirms the Fable reboot’s delay while talking to host Tina Amini.
Duncan says that while the Fable reboot was originally slated to launch this year, Xbox has decided to give the project “more time”, and it’s now going to be released sometime in 2026. Naturally, Duncan didn’t provide a more specific release window than that.
Duncan goes on to acknowledge that the reboot’s delay is “not maybe the news people want to hear”, but that he’s confident the game will be “worth the wait”. He promises that the Fable reboot will combine Playground’s signature visual fidelity with “amazing gameplay” and “British humor”, as you’d expect.
The podcast, which is available in transcript form on the Xbox website, was also released as a video on YouTube, and in that video, Duncan and Amini reveal some more Fable footage to help tide you over while you wait for 2026.
There isn’t much new footage to pore over, but you can see a little more of Playground’s vision for Fable, and if you want a visual component to Duncan and Amini’s chat, that’s there for you as well.
Outside of discussing the Fable reboot, there’s also a little background on Duncan, who’s making his first appearance on the podcast as Xbox Game Studios head, as well as some discussion around other Xbox releases like Doom: The Dark Ages and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
In any case, the Fable reboot is now launching in 2026, and we’re not sure exactly when in 2026 you can expect it. If you want to keep up with the game’s progress, though, you can wishlist it on Steam right now.
