Today Square Enix released a batch of screenshots showing off the upcoming update for Final Fantasy XIV, which will serve as a bridge to the expansion Dawntrail.
Interestingly, we get to see two screenshots of the story, which is a direct link to the expansion and show two elements that have been introduced during the weekend at Fan Festival in Tokyo (of which you can read our extensive recap).
Specifically, we get to take a look at Krile Baldesion in her new Pictomancer job, on top of the new female Hrothgar NPC who will come to the Baldesion Annex seeking an audience with the Warrior of Light about the succession in Tural.
Incidentally, I was not able to find her name in any official written form either on marketing or press releases. Listening to the keynote, I believe it may be Vuk’lamath. I have reached out to Square Enix asking for an official spelling.
In any case, both were prominently featured in the Dawntrail cinematic trailer, but now we get to see them in-engine for the first time.
Both are also a preview of playable elements coming with the expansion, as players will be able to unlock the Pictomancer job for themselves and create female Hrothgars.
More screenshots of the update include the new trial, The Gilded Araya, which will see us fight against Asura, the questlines Tataru’s Grand Endeavor, Somehow Further Hildibrand Adventures, and Manderville Weapons.
We also get to see the tribal alliance quests featuring the adorable Loporrits.
We already know that the update releases on January 16, but will require a 24-hour downtime due to an overhaul of the machines in the Japanese data center.
You can check them all out in the gallery below.
Final Fantasy XIV can be purchased for PS5, PS4, PC, and Mac, An Xbox Series X|S port will officially release at some point this spring, but the open beta starts in February and it’ll work basically like a soft launch, with testing done on the live servers.
We also recently learned that the game is continuing its successful cavalcade, having passed 30 million registered accounts.
The new expansion Dawntrail is coming in the summer of 2024, and doesn’t yet have an official release date. If you want to start playing before it releases, you can purchase a copy of the game on Amazon.
Square Enix recently hosted the Fan Festival in London and the Eorzean Symphony Orchestra Concert in the same city. We have reports for both to catch you up.
