Floyd Schofield Now WBA #1 Contender For Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis

Floyd Schofield has been elevated to #1 in the WBA’s new updated rankings at lightweight, making him the top contender for Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis’ title. Now, it’s only a matter of time before Tank will be forced to fight Schofield (19-0, 13 KOs) or get stripped.

There’s a lot of doubt about Tank Davis choosing to defend his WBA title against Schofield because he’s been very strategic about the opponents he chooses to fight since picking up that belt in December 2019. Some fans are predicting that Gervonta will retire or vacate the WBA title rather than fight Schofield and potentially get knocked out.

Schofield’s Rise to #1

Schofield’s first-round knockout of Tevin Farmer last Saturday night in Anaheim, California, obviously played a part in him being moved to #1 in the WBA’s lightweight rankings. He annihilated the former IBF super featherweight champion Farmer, knocking him down two times in the first round.

“I see what you put up there, Tank. You know all you can do after this fight is send a contract,” said Floyd Schofield Sr. to Fighthype, sending a message to Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis. “You don’t have to do all that tying. You know you got the belts. So, we’re coming for y’all.”

Davis vs. Schofield: Will it Happen?

Schofield Sr. shouldn’t get his hopes up too much about Tank Davis fighting his son, because he’s been ignoring his #1 contender. He selected Lamont Roach from the 130-lb division. Those two have a rematch in August. Even if Tank loses the rematch and his WBA belt, there will likely be a trilogy. Roach isn’t going to want to fight Schofield if he’s got the option of fighting Tank again.

“So, y’all ain’t said nothing on Twitter or anything that really matters. Send the contract. You know we want to fight y’all,” said Schofield Ar. “I’ve said it to everybody. I know my boy will stop you. I ain’t talking s*** from this win. It’s being competitive. I know you got power.”

Schofield’s knockout victory actually hurt his case for getting the fights that he wants against Tank and WBC champion Shakur Stevenson. Neither of those fighters is going to want to take the risk of fighting Schofield now. Their promoters won’t want to make that fight either.

“If you don’t think you’re on the hit list, you’re bugging. To become the greatest of all time, y’all got to fight the best in our era. It’s not disrespect. It’s actually an honor that we’re calling you out and want to get in the ring to fight y’all. I know Kid will stop you,” said Schofield Sr.
