Sacred Heart opened a 4-1 lead over No. 15 UMass on Friday night at the Mullins Center in Amherst, Mass. before Cullen DeYoung made 23 saves across the final two periods as the Pioneers held off a Minutemen rally for a 4-3 victory.

UMass handled the visiting Pioneers with an 18-4 shot advantage in the second period, but SHU’s two goals from Gabe Blanchard and Reid Pabich ensured the visitors would enter the third period with a two-goal lead. Mikey Adamson added a goal in the first 30 seconds of the third period before the Minutemen began storming back with goals from Cam O’Neill and Owen Murray, the latter of which came while UMass emptied the net from goalie Michael Hrabal.

Sacred Heart goalie Cullen DeYoung finished with 33 saves to Hrabal’s 13 stops on 17 shots ahead of the teams’ return match in Fairfield on Saturday night.

No. 9 Maine 2, No. 7 Quinnipiac 1

The ninth-ranked Black Bears scored twice in the first period and finished with a 29-20 shot advantage as they upended the seventh-ranked Bobcats in a defensive battle at Alfond Arena in Orono, Maine.

Nolan Renwick and Charlie Russell both scored for the Black Bears, who did not surrender an even-strength goal to the Bobcats, and goalie Albin Boija stopped nine shots in the first period behind a defense that blocked 13 shots over the three-period effort.

Tyler Borgula scored a power play goal for Quinnipiac in the second period before both teams notched a scoreless third period.

No. 6 Minnesota 7, Minnesota-Duluth 5

A wild night at AMSOIL Arena in Duluth, Minn. ended with Minnesota claiming a victory over its in-state rivals from Duluth after both teams combined for a 12-goal outburst.

Minnesota grabbed a 4-0 lead in the first period when four different scorers lit the lamp against the Bulldogs, but Duluth nearly evened the result by scoring four goals in third period after trailing, 5-1, into the third.

Seven different players scored for the Gophers while Aiden Dubinsky scored twice for Duluth, which added two late goals after falling behind, 7-3, in the third period.

Ohio State 2, Wisconsin 1

Max Montes scored twice and beat goaltender Tommy Scarfone with 17 seconds remaining in overtime as the Buckeyes exited the Kohl Center in Madison, Wisc. with a 2-1 overtime victory.

Ryland Mosley scored on the power play for the Badgers to take a 1-0 lead before Montes evened the score with 12 seconds remaining in the first period. Neither team later scored until the overtime period.

Logan Terness stopped a 30-shot barrage in the second and third periods with two stops in overtime before Montes collected the second point for the Buckeyes.
