Garcia And Romero Set For DAZN Fight: ‘Kingry’ Vows To Overcome ‘Rolly’s’ Roughhouse Tactics In Times Square Clash

Ryan Garcia warned Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero during their face-off with DAZN that he’s not going to be able to get away with using his roughhouse tactics this Friday night in their 12-round headliner on May 2nd at Times Square in New York City.

Rolly beat up Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) during one leaked, undated sparring session estimated to have taken place in the early 2020s. He threw the rule book out the window and roughed up a thin, weak-looking Ryan during that session.

Garcia will be fighting Rolando (16-2, 13 KOs) on DAZN PPV, with the start time of the event at 6:00 pm ET / 3:00 pm PT. The main event is estimated to start at 11:00 p.m. ET / 8:00 p.m. PT. The PPV is priced at $59.99.

The Warning

“I’m bigger than you now, though. So none of that wrestling s*** is going to work this time. Trying to get all dirty, that isn’t going to work this time,” said Ryan Garcia to DAZN Boxing, letting Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero know he won’t be able to rough him up in their fight this Friday in New York City like he did when they sparred years ago.

Ryan better be prepared for Rolly’s roughhouse tactics because he’s definitely going to be trying on Friday. It worked for him before, and he knows he’ll stand no chance if he stays on the outside all night. Romero, 29, will be bum-rushing Garcia from the first bell, forcing him against the ropes, and grabbing, pushing him over the ring ropes.

As seen in their leaked sparring video, Rolly will be holding and hitting. Yeah, it’s illegal, but if he can hurt Kingry, he can finish him off. Most referees take a casual approach to policing fighters who rough up their opponents.

So, Rolando will likely get away scot free with pulling every trick in the book. With the mega-millions he can get in a rematch with Garcia, it pays for him to use every dirty, underhanded trick he can to get the win.

Power Still There?

“In that sparring, he was able to roughhouse me and put me in a bad position that I didn’t want to be in because I was physically smaller than him. Now, when I’m next to him, he looks smaller than me. He looks like a baby compared to me. I’m a big dude. So, you’re in for a rude awakening if you think any of that is going to work.

“It kind of showed me that your strength isn’t really up there anymore when I seen your last two fights [Manuel Jaimes and Isaac Cruz] with Pitbull and the other dude. So, you’re in for some s***. It might be your last fight,” said Garcia.

Rolly’s power looked as good as always in his fight against Isaac Cruz last year in March. The reason he lost is that he couldn’t handle the hard shots the tiny 5’4″ Pitbull was hitting him with. The Mexican brawler took the fight to the inside and battered Rolly at will for eight rounds until the fight was halted.

“Against Haney, you looked like s***,” said Romero to Kingry. “The only time you looked good is when you dropped him.”
