Georgiev traded to Sharks by Avalanche for Blackwood

Mackenzie Blackwood was traded to the Colorado Avalanche by the San Jose Sharks on Monday for goalie Alexandar Georgiev.

The Avalanche also received forward Givani Smith and a fifth-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft.

Going to the Sharks along with Georgiev is forward Nikolai Kovalenko, a fifth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft and a second-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.

The Avalanche have completely revamped their goaltending in the past two weeks. They acquired goalie Scott Wedgewood in a trade with the Nashville Predators for goalie Justus Annunen on Nov. 30.

The Sharks have averaged 2.21 goals per game when Blackwood has played, fourth fewest among goalies to play at least 10 games.

He was in his second season with the Sharks after being traded to San Jose by the New Jersey Devils on June 27, 2023.
