Grizzlies wanted Net's 2025 second rounder in Dorian Finney-Smith deal

Per league sources, there were two holdups to completing that deal. In addition to Finney-Smith, Memphis wanted Brooklyn’s 2025 second-round pick and offered top-17 protection on the first-rounder. With the Grizzlies unwilling to budge — and perhaps awaiting more information on the nature of Ja Morant’s shoulder injury — the Nets opted for the Lakers’ offer instead.

The Grizzlies offered the Nets a top-17 protected 2025 first for Dorian Finney-Smith but also wanted Brooklyn’s 2025 second, per @kpelton.
The Nets felt better about three Lakers seconds, Maxwell Lewis, and more cap space (D’Lo expiring instead of Konchar). – 4:46 PM

Not often you see a team acquire two players who were both teammates of the head coach on different teams in the same trade but that’s what the Lakers did by getting Dorian Finney-Smith (Mavericks) and Shake Milton (76ers) – 4:33 PM

Before the Brooklyn Nets traded Dorian Finney-Smith to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Memphis Grizzlies offered a top-15 protected 2025 first-round pick, Luke Kennard and John Konchar to the Nets for Finney-Smith and second-round considerations, league sources told @hoopshype. – 2:56 PM
Adam Aaronson @SixersAdam
Don’t know if Sixers had real interest in Dorian Finney-Smith + Dennis Schröder, but if they liked those guys, Brooklyn’s surprisingly good start to the year hurt the Sixers. They could’ve conceivably beaten GSW/LAL offers, but not until Jan. 15 when KJ Martin is trade eligible. – 2:27 PM

Lakers reportedly trade D’Angelo Russell to Nets for Dorian Finney-Smith, Shake Milton
This is a win for LA, which gets a much-needed 3&D wing (one they have eyed for years) who can step into the starting 5 and do it without giving up a first-round pick
