The San Diego Gulls couldn’t catch up to the Bakersfield Condors on Friday night, falling 5-0 at Dignity Health Arena.
Kyle Mayhew broke the ice for the Condors in the first with his first career AHL goal. James Hamblin followed suit with 30 seconds left in the period, making it 2-0 at the end of the opening frame.
Bakersfield got more offense in the middle frame, as Josh Prokop scored his first AHL goal to make it 3-0 early in the second. Daniel D’Amato stretched the lead to 4-0 a few minutes later. Hamblin scored again in the third, depositing one into an empty net for the final goal of the night.
Tonight’s loss officially eliminates San Diego from playoff contention.
The Gulls will be center stage in Coachella Valley on Sunday, as they face the Firebirds at Acrisure Arena (5 p.m. PDT).
