Hurricanes Blank Capitals, 4-0, Take 2-1 Series Lead.

The Washington Capitals fell to the Carolina Hurricanes, 4-0, Saturday night at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh. With the win, the Hurricanes take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series. Game 4 is set for Monday night in Raleigh.


LINEUP

Logan Thompson (5-2-0, 2.01 GAA, .931 sv%) got the start between the pipes for the visiting Capitals in Game 3. Frederik Andersen (4-2-0, 1.55 GAA, .930 sv%) got the start in goal for the Hurricanes. The starting forward lines and defensive pairs for the Capitals:

1ST PERIOD

The Capitals and Hurricanes skated to a scoreless draw in the opening stanza. It was a good period for the Caps. They led in five-on-five shot attempts, 19-18, scoring chances, 13-10, high-danger chances, 8-1 and expected goals for, 1.54 to 0.61.


2ND PERIOD

The Hurricanes opened the scoring on a short-range snipe by Andrei Svechnikov (6) with 7:26 remaining in the middle frame. The goal was unassisted.

The Canes made it 2-0 with a power play goal from x with 1:03 remaining in the second period. Jack Roslovic (1) notched the tally. B. Burns (2) and T. Hall (3) had the helpers.

The second period concluded with the Canes holding the 2-0 lead. The Hurricanes led in possession, leading on five-on-five shot attempts, 25-8, scoring chances, 8-4, high-danger chances, 3-2 and expected goals for, 0.51 to 0.49.


3RD PERIOD

The Canes quickly extended their lead to 3-o early in the final frame. Eric Robinson (1) notched the tally just 3:14 into the final frame. L. Stankoven (2) and J. Roslovic (2) had the assists.

The Hurricanes added a power play goal from Jackson Blake (1) at 16:44 to make it 4-0. S. Gostisbehere (4) and S. Jarvis (5) had the helpers.
