The transfer portal closed nearly two months ago, but roster activity for the 2025-26 season continues across the country.
Indiana basketball added its 12th scholarship player on June 16 when Serbian guard Aleksa Ristic pledged to the Hoosiers. Here’s the latest on the roster for the 2025-26 season as of Wednesday afternoon. We’ll publish updates throughout the offseason until the roster is complete.
Transfer portal departures
Seven scholarship players from the 2024-25 IU basketball roster entered the transfer portal in March and one entered the portal in April. Those departures, along with several graduating players, left new coach Darian DeVries with no returning players.
The seven players from the 2024-25 roster who entered the portal in March: Gabe Cupps, Malik Reneau, Mackenzie Mgbako, Jakai Newton, Myles Rice, Kanaan Carlyle and Bryson Tucker.
Seven of the eight players who entered the portal have chosen new schools. Cupps was the first off the board to Ohio State, followed by Reneau to Miami (FL), Newton to Georgia State, Rice to Maryland, Mgbako to Texas A&M, Tucker to Washington and Kanaan Carlyle to Florida Atlantic.
Dallas James, who entered the portal in April, has not committed to a school for next season.
Status to be determined
Luke Goode and Anthony Leal are awaiting word from the NCAA on their eligibility status for the 2025-26 season. Both players have requested waivers for an additional season of eligibility.
Here’s what DeVries said about both players last month at Huber’s Winery:
“Yeah, their waivers are still in process. My understanding is there’s been, as you probably all know, a ton of waivers have been filed. So I think there’s a little bit of a backup there. So from a timing standpoint, we don’t really have a lot of clarity on when those decisions will be made. You know, sooner the better, but that’s really out of our control.”
Incoming freshmen
Indiana had two freshmen committed when DeVries accepted the job on March 18: Trent Sisley and Harun Zrno.
Zrno, a Bosnian wing, chose to reopen his recruitment on March 19 and committed to Rutgers.
Sisley, who played his final high school season at Montverde Academy and is a native of Lincoln City, Indiana, reaffirmed his commitment to the program shortly after DeVries was hired and arrived on campus in late May.
Indiana added a second freshman for the 2024-25 roster in Ristic, a Serbian guard who is expected to join the roster later this summer.
Incoming players from the transfer portal
Indiana signed 10 players from the transfer portal. The initial 2025-26 roster was announced on June 2.
