IU basketball transfer portal player profile: Iowa guard Josh Dix – Inside the Hall

Indiana’s 2025-26 roster will be built this spring by new coach Darian DeVries, who will navigate the transfer portal to assemble his first team in Bloomington.

Inside the Hall will examine some of the prospects linked to the Hoosiers this spring. Today: Iowa guard Josh Dix.

Previously: Ryan Conwell

Numbers to know

97 career games at Iowa: 8.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 22.2 minutes per game. Dix is a career 41.9 percent 3-point shooter, 79.8 percent free throw shooter and shoots at a 51.4 percent clip from the field. He started 52 games for the Hawkeyes.

Background and potential fit

Council Bluffs, Iowa native Josh Dix has been known as a shooter since his high school days at Lincoln High School.

The 6-foot-6 guard was the No. 162 player nationally out of high school, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, and held a scholarship offer from Darian DeVries and Drake before committing to Fran McCaffery and Iowa.

As a freshman for the Hawkeyes, Dix played sparingly for a team that finished 19-14 and fell to Auburn in the first round of the 2023 NCAA tournament. He appeared in 31 games for Iowa and averaged two points while shooting 40 percent on 3-pointers.

His role grew substantially as a sophomore as he entered the starting line for 20 of Iowa’s 34 games. Dix averaged 8.9 points and shot 42.1 percent on 3s. He scored in double figures 11 times and had four games of 20 or more points, including a season-high 24 points in an 87-80 road win at Northwestern on March 2, 2024. His 3-point shooting percentage of 42.6 ranked eighth in the league in conference games.

As a junior in Iowa City this past season, Dix started all 32 games for the Hawkeyes and averaged 14.4 points in 32.3 minutes per game. He shot 65-for-154 on 3s (42.2 percent) and connected at a 43.3 percent clip in league games, 10th best in the league. Dix scored in double figures 31 times, had six games with 20 or more points and poured in a career-high 31 points in an overtime win against Nebraska on January 7.

It’s no secret why Dix is one of the most coveted guards in the transfer portal. He’s an elite shooter with plenty of experience as a starter at the high-major level. DeVries is already familiar with Dix as he recruited him out of high school. For an Indiana program that has lacked perimeter shooting consistency over the last eight seasons, landing a knockdown shooter like Dix would be welcome news.

According to Joe Tipton of On3, he’s already visited Kansas and Illinois and will also visit Creighton and Indiana soon.
